Fighting Hunger in Arkansas:
Program Helps Hunters Give Back to Community

Each holiday season, Arkansans give of their time, talents, and treasures to provide for those less fortunate.  This time of year reminds us of all we have to be thankful for, and how we can make a difference in the lives of others – especially those who struggle to put food on the table for themselves and their families.

Nearly 500,000 Arkansans live in poverty. Fortunately, there is a program in Arkansas that has provided approximately one million meals to Arkansas’s most needy citizens over the past nine years.  The program is called Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry.

Through the Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry program, hunters donate venison and other wild game to be processed and distributed to homeless shelters, soup kitchens, and food banks.

As chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and as a hunter, I am proud to support Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry.  This week, I introduced a resolution in the Senate to recognize the cooperative efforts of hunters, sportsmen’s associations, meat processors, hunger relief organizations, and state wildlife, health, and food safety agencies to establish programs that provide game meat to feed the hungry.

Even if you are not a hunter, there are other ways to help our Arkansas neighbors in need. For more information, contact the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance at 501-399-9999 or visit www.arhungeralliance.org.

Together, we can put an end to hunger in Arkansas.

With Arkansas Pride,

Senator Lincoln
